Marlin Linus Berg, age 65, of Courtland died unexpectedly on Monday, January 11, 2016 at his home in Courtland.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Friday, January 15, 2016 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Deb Bergstrad will officiate, and burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Thursday and 7:30-8:30 on Friday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Marlin is survived by his wife, Judie Berg of Courtland; daughters, Tarah (Aaron) Petersen of St. Peter, Michelle Rosenthal of Maple Grove; sons, Rick (Holly) Berg of New Ulm, Jamie (Gina) Berg of New Ulm; grandchildren, Stephen, Nicole, Ashlyn, Jacob, Hattie; parents, George Jr. and LaVerna Berg of New Ulm; and sisters, Darlene (Walt) Blume of Herman, Carol (Randy) Wiltscheck of New Ulm, and Janet (Mark) Krueger of Cleveland.

Marlin Linus Berg was born February 26, 1950 in Sleepy Eye to George Jr. and LaVerna (Ludewig) Berg. He attended school at Cathedral and New Ulm Public High School. Marlin was united in marriage to Judie Martensen on September 23, 1978 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Early in life, Marlin worked for Swanson/Hy-Vee in New Ulm and Iowa as a Grocery Produce Manager. Later in life, Marlin began working for Skyline Manufacturing, and eventually began a career in road construction where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Marlin had a great love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing, and especially loved gardening. He had a great talent for cooking as well. To relax, Marlin enjoyed reading and watching old western movies. What he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his grandkids and watching them grow into adults and play sports. He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and the Construction/Labor Union of St. Paul.
