Marlys V. Brandel, age 90 of New Ulm passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022 at her home in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. The Christian Mothers will be praying the Rosary 4pm at the Cathedral on Tuesday.
Visitation will be from 9:00 - 10:30 am on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – NORTH Chapel.
Marlys is survived by her daughters, Gail (Gregg) Menk of Eagan, Cheryl (Mark) Senske of Winthrop, Lori (Joe) Achman of New Ulm; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Martha Schugel of New Ulm and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold Brandel (2011); son, Larry Brandel (2008); brother, Leo F. Schugel; sister, Geraldine (Delbert) Fischer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herbert and Lucille Oarth, Vincent and Lucille Brandel, Jerome Brandel; nephew, Alan Brandel and niece, Debra Wieland.
Marlys Veronica Schugel was born February 12, 1932 to Leo and Elizabeth (Arnoldi) Schugel in New Ulm. She graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in New Ulm. Marlys was united in marriage to Harold Brandel on February 19, 1952 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. After marriage they farmed in Milford Township and Cottonwood Township. They moved to New Ulm in 1962 where Marlys was employed at Holm Industries for 33 years until she retired in 1997. She was a member of the St. Elizabeth Society, Christian Mothers and Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Marlys enjoyed sewing, embroidering, quilt making and other crafts but above all else she loved to spend time with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, New Ulm Area Catholic Schools or Donor's Choice.
