Obituary

Mildred Cordes, age 100, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017, at Ridgeway on German in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be 11am on Monday, December 4, 2017, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Pastor Don Sutton will officiate, and burial will follow in the St. Paul's Cemetery in New Ulm.

Visitation will be from 2-5pm Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 10-11am on Monday at the church.

Mildred is survived by children: Sharon Sveine of New Ulm, Kenneth Cordes and special friend Peg Wilson of Shorewood MN, Sandee Paulson and husband Mark of Duluth, MN, Richard  Cordes and wife, Diane, of Breckenridge, MN, Kathleen Backer of New Ulm and Pamela Romberg of Poulsbo, WA, sixteen grandchildren, one step-granddaughter, thirty-two great grandchildren and thirteen great, great, grandchildren, sister, Esther Schedler of Milwaukee, WI, and brother-in-law Clifford Cordes of New Ulm, many nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hugo Cordes, September 17, 1985; a sons-in-law, Marcey Sveine, Marvin Romberg Jr. & Cal Backer; a great granddaughter, Madison M. Groskreutz; her parents; a brother, Elden Paape; and a sister, Lucile Miller.

Mildred Marie Paape was born on January 2, 1917 in Nicollet County to Otto and Hannah (Johnson) Paape.  She became a child of God by Holy Baptism on January 14, 1917.  She was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on April 13, 1930 at the Trinity Lutheran Church Nicollet, MN by Rev. Koehler.  She attended country school in Nicollet County.

She moved to New Ulm in 1933 with her family.  She was united in marriage to Walter Hugo Cordes on July 25, 1937.  She worked at various places in New Ulm including: Eibners, Ben Franklin & Kraft Foods Cafeteria.  She belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and church circles, Oak Hills Auxiliary, the CAST choir, and the Brown County Historical Society.  She was a dedicated volunteer for Oak Hills, the Treasure Haus, St. Paul's School Library and the Brown County Historical Society.  She enjoyed baking bars, playing cards and Yahtzee, attending sporting events and was a great MN Twins fan. Mildred's family would prefer memorials be made out to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or Oak Hills.
