Muriel Dolores Blomquist was born September 6, 1925 at the Blomquist family home in Linden Township of Brown County, MN to Algot and Evelyn (Ouren) Blomquist. In 1928, the family moved to Hanska in a home built by Muriel's grandparents, Nels and Nora Ouren. Muriel and her eight siblings grew up in that wonderful home by the park.

Muriel graduated from Hanska High school in 1943 as the class salutatorian and was the last surviving member of her class. After graduation Muriel was employed at the Hanska Rural Telephone Company as a switchboard operator and also worked at the Gambles store in Hanska. Muriel started dating the love of her life, Lee Frederickson, a WWll Air Force airplane mechanic when he was home on furlough. They wrote love letters to each other every single day while Lee was serving his country. Muriel saved those love letters and read them frequently over the years to reminisce about days gone by.

Muriel and Lee were married in a double wedding with Muriel's sister, Rose Marie Blomquist and Hilmer Hanson at Nora Unitarian Church on July 3, 1946. The newlyweds resided in Hanska until 1952 when they moved to the farm in Lake Hanska Township. They built a new farm home in 1954 and were so blessed to live the rest of their lives there. Muriel cherished being a homemaker and she and Lee lovingly raised their five children in this home.

Muriel is survived by her five children and spouses: Emelyn (Vern) Lawson, Noel Frederickson, Cheryl Mosenden, Ric (Janet) Frederickson, and Tammy (Brian) Johnson. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Tricia (Jon) Cooper, Nicole (Kingsley) Sutch, Laurie (Scott)Anderson, Jill (Joe) Kratzke, Javen –deceased (Lori) Mosenden, Jenny Mosenden (Dave Nelson), Jayda Mosenden, Ross (Mackenzie) Frederickson, Katy Frederickson (Seth Bichler), Andy (Katie) Schmiesing, Shawn (Steve) Wilfahrt, Cody (Desiree) Johnson and Connor Johnson.

Muriel was a lifelong member of the Nora Unitarian Church of Hanska. She served on the Ladies Aide and was a member of the Lake Hanska Home Extension group and enjoyed participating in a bowling league for a number of years. Her hobbies included gardening, canning vegetables, doing word search puzzles, watching Wheel of Fortune and reading. She wrote in her diary every day for much of her life where many precious memories are contained therein. She will be remembered for keeping Hallmark in business as she never missed sending a beautiful greeting card to every family member and friend on special occasions. Her favorite color was red and she loved sunny days.

Muriel was a kind-hearted, gentle, soft-spoken, strong and resilient woman. Family was everything to her and she was selfless in her devotion to them. Mom loved big family gatherings at the farm when we were all together. How fortunate we were to still have Mom and the family farm to come home to until she passed away. We will miss her forever and will strive to live our lives by the wonderful example she set for us. Blessed be her memory.
