Nicholas “Nick” Albert Hoffmann, age 39 of rural Nicollet, passed peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with his family by his side following a hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Church prior to the Mass. Father Jerry Meidl will celebrate the Mass, and a private burial will follow in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Cemetery in Lafayette.

In keeping this service true Nick’s nature, the family invites everyone to come as they are and encourages casual attire.

Following the burial, a public Celebration of Nick’s Life will be held at Turner Hall in New Ulm.

Nick is survived by his wife, Megan Hoffmann of rural Nicollet; his daughters, McKinlee, and Rylee; his son, Rhett; his parents, Larry, and Arlynne Hoffmann of Lafayette; his sister, Angie (Mark) Voges of rural Nicollet; his brothers, Doug (Rachel) Hoffmann of Lafayette and Joe (Erika) Hoffmann of New Ulm; his dog, Fynn; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Fred, and Eunice Trout; and his paternal grandparents, Howard, and Lois Hoffmann.

Nicholas “Nick” Albert Hoffmann was born September 10, 1987, in New Ulm to Larry and Arlynne (Trout) Hoffmann. Growing up in rural Lafayette, Nick was a 2006 graduate of New Ulm High School. He was united in marriage to Megan Nachreiner on September 29, 2012, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Fairfax. Together, they were blessed with two daughters and a son, whom they raised on their farm in rural Nicollet.

Nick had a love for the land and the outdoors his entire life. He dedicated himself to providing for his family through his work as a farmer, but also worked with his brother in their trucking partnership, Hoffmann Transfer. Nick was a hard worker who took great pride in everything he did. He was a perfectionist in the best sense, always wanting to do things right and never taking shortcuts. His work ethic was matched by his humility and the enormous heart he carried throughout his life. Nick was the kind of person who quietly put the needs of others ahead of his own and was always willing to lend a hand. Yet, above everything else, his family was his greatest priority. He took great pride in providing for them and truly loved watching his girls dance and always enjoyed playing trucks and tractors with his son.

Nick had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He loved ice fishing, deer hunting, and enjoyed talking in the shop with friends, family, and neighbors over a few shop beers. While he was most at home on the farm, Nick always knew how to have a good time once he got away from it. Over the years, many wonderful memories were made on family camping trips, giving Nick the opportunity to step away from the farm, enjoy time with those he loved, and simply have a good time together.

One of Nick’s more recent projects brought together his appreciation for hard work, good trucks, and the memories of his younger years. He meticulously restored the very same 1994 Ford F-150 he had driven while in high school. True to Nick’s nature, he took great pride in doing the job right.

Nick’s life was deeply rooted in the land he loved and in the family he worked so hard to provide for. He was proud of the fact that he was born a farmer, and he remained a farmer until the very end. Farming was never simply what Nick did for a living. It was a part of who he was. Through his example, Nick taught his children the importance of having a strong work ethic, taking pride in yourself and in whatever you do, and always giving your best. But perhaps just as importantly, he taught his children that no matter what, there was always time to say, “I love you.” These are the lessons and values that will remain with his family long after the work is done. Through his hard work, humility, generosity, and love for his family, Nick leaves behind a legacy that will live on in the land he cared for, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and most importantly, in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to call him husband, dad, son, brother, and friend.
