Obituary

Norman Bernholtz, 87, of New Ulm died Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, February 2, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Friday and 9 – 10 AM Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

Norman is survived by his wife, Adana Bernholtz of New Ulm; and a sister, Helen Schreyer of New Ulm.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Dorothy Marie Bernholtz in infancy.

Norman Joseph Bernholtz was born May 22, 1931 in Carroll, Iowa to Joseph and Rose (Thieleke) Bernholtz. He was a graduate of New Ulm High School and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He began farming with his family in Iowa then moving to New Ulm in 1949 where he farmed his entire life in Lafayette Township until his retirement in 2015. Noman was united in marriage to Adana Podratz in 1966 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. He enjoyed farming, woodcutting, building things and could fabricate and fix anything for family and neighbors. Norman and Dana also hosted musicians that performed at Heritage Fest for 30 years.

Norman was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and American Legion Post #132 in New Ulm.
