New Ulm

Prof. Waldemar H. Nolte, 98, of New Ulm was called to his Heavenly Home on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Donald Sutton officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm. Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.

Waldemar is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret "Marcy" and David Drescher of Alden, Ruth Geiman of Columbus, Ohio, Annette Thorson of Courtland, Carol and David Strenge of New Ulm, Doris and Timothy Winkel of Muskegon, Michigan; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Jane Nolte of Fairborn, Ohio, Jerry and Betty Nolte of Oak Hill, Virginia, John and Cheryl Nolte of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; twenty seven grandchildren; thirty seven great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; and a special friend, Joyce Griebel of New Ulm. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gertrude Nolte on September 10, 2009; sisters, Antoinette Wiedenkeller, Adelaide Bradtke, Charlotte Ridler; brothers, Arlin Nolte, Ewald Nolte; and a son-in-law, Eugene Glaesemann.

Waldemar Henry Nolte was born on May 23, 1916 in Elmore to Rev. William and Marie "Mamie" (Schmidt) Nolte. He attended the Christian Day School of the congregation his father served in rural Claremont. He began his advanced education at Dr. Martin Luther High School in New Ulm in 1929. He graduated from the college in 1936. On June 25, 1937 he was united in marriage to Gertrude Vogel at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Waldemar also attended post-graduate classes at Concordia College in River Forest, Illinois and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He served Christian Day Schools and a Lutheran High School in the following places: Fond du Lac, Cudahy, and Burlington, Wisconsin; Mankato, Winona; and Mobridge, South Dakota before coming to New Ulm in 1962 to serve as a Professor of Music at Dr. Martin Luther College until his retirement in 1986.
