Randy Dean Cordes, age 69, of New Ulm, passed away on August 24, 2026, at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm

Randy is survived by his son, Danny Cordes of New Ulm; daughter, Tammy (Aaron) Johnson of Elk Mound, Wisconsin; two granddaughters, Hailey and Leah Johnson; brothers, Ronny (Sue) Cordes and Rusty (Tammy) Cordes, all of New Ulm; sister-in-law, Deb Cordes of Champlin; brothers-in-law, Mark Miklas of North Mankato and Randy Miklas of New Ulm; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy Cordes; parents, Donald and Jeanne Cordes; brother, Ricky Cordes; and father- and mother-in-law, Warren and Carolyn Miklas.

Randy Dean Cordes was born on October 7, 1956, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Donald and Jeanne (Gehrke) Cordes. He graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1975 and later graduated from vocational-technical school in North Mankato. Randy was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Miklas on August 25, 1979, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. Their union was blessed with two children. Randy spent his career at New Ulm Precision Tool, where he worked until his retirement. He was also a member of the Sons of The American Legion and the Sioux Valley Gun Club.

Randy was a hardworking and incredibly knowledgeable man who took pride in his work. A machinist by trade, he had a natural talent for problem-solving and figuring out how things worked. He was handy and always willing to explain, usually step-by-step, how something should be done, and rarely passed up an opportunity to supervise a project. Randy was precise, particular and never short on an opinion, but he also loved to laugh and have a good time. His contagious laugh could fill a room, and he was often the last one ready to leave a family gathering or party.

Over the years, Randy enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating the river, riding four-wheelers, being outdoors and working on projects. More recently, he enjoyed puzzles and taking his electric wheelchair to nearby parks and lakes around his nursing home in New Brighton. He loved spending time with family and finding ways to keep everyone busy, especially when they came to visit.

His family will miss his knowledge, his advice, his laugh and all the little things that were simply Randy.
