Richard Bentz, age 83, of Gibbon passed away Monday, July 20, 2026 at the River Valley Health and Rehab Center in Redwood Falls.

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township, Gibbon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. Friday, with service to follow.

Richard is survived by his wife, Faye Bentz; daughter, Amy Bentz; son, Darren (Heidi) Bentz; grandchildren, Calvin Bentz, Kaitlyn (fiancé, Andrew Vaerst); sister, Carolyn (Greg) Johnson; brothers, Brad (Karen) Bentz, Donovan (Sue) Bentz; sister-in-law, Pam (Brad) White; brothers-in-law, Lance Briard, Ron (Miriam) Elbert, Blaine (Jo) Elbert; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Eugene and Pauline Elbert; and sisters, Glorian (Ron) Sander, Marilyn Briard.

Richard Arthur Bentz was born March 4, 1943 to Arthur and Mildred (Lillienthal) Bentz in New Ulm. Soon after he was baptized and later confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township. Richard graduated from Gibbon High School in 1961. He then went on to college at the University of Minnesota for a year. Richard returned back to Section 14 of Moltke Township where he was born and raised. Ever since he was a boy, Richard knew he wanted to be a farmer and that is exactly what he did. His farm grew when he met Faye Elbert. They were married on August 26, 1967 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Their union was blessed with two children.

Outside of being a husband, father, and papa, Richard was an avid and lifelong church member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church – proudly serving his church community. He loved to sing, happily sharing his talents with the church choir and as a lifetime member of the Concord Singers. One of Richard’s favorite pastimes was behind his red tractor farming the land.

Above all, his faith, family, and farming were central to Richard’s life. He loved sharing his knowledge and land with his children and grandchildren, fixing and solving problems that arose, and going to birthdays, activities, or any gatherings he could attend to spend time with his family. Richard will be dearly missed by those that knew him. Blessed be his memory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred for the building fund at Moltke Township.
