Richard "Dick" Ferdinand Anderson was born December 6, 1931 in New Ulm to Roger and Viola (Fritsche) Anderson. Growing up in New Ulm, Dick was a 1950 graduate from the New Ulm Public High School. Soon after graduation, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he proudly served from 1949-1969. During his time in the Navy he served on the USS Damanto, Forrestal, Sierra, and Anderson as a Craft Captain and Ground Patrol before his retirement from the military in 1969. After his retirement, Dick moved to Winthrop where he worked at the fertilizer plant and a machine/welding shop for an additional eighteen years before he fully retired. In life, Dick appreciated the simple things. When he could, he enjoyed pheasant hunting and fishing. To socialize with friends and neighbors, he played cards and especially enjoyed cribbage. What brought him the greatest joy at times was just a simple drive in the car with Betty where they could truly appreciate their surroundings. Dick was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and the VFW. Blessed be his memory.
