Richard "Mike" McLean, 83, of New Ulm died Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Pastor Jo Anne Taylor officiating. A private family burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Madelia at a later date. Visitation will be 4 – 6 p.m. Sunday and from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Monday.
Richard is survived by his wife, Irma McLean; grandchildren, Michael (Anita ) Stay, Jill (Doug) IronNecklace, Fritz (Becky) Schellgell; four great grandchildren; nieces; cousins; two sons-in-law; brother-in-law; and sister-in-law. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores (Larson) McLean; daughters, Colleen and Susan; parents; siblings; and in-laws.
Richard Aaron McLean was born on March 3, 1933. He grew up in Madelia with his parents Roy and Edna (Bristol) McLean, brother Melvin and sister Ruth. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1951 and attended the University of Minnesota graduating with a teaching degree. He married Delores Larson on September 26, 1954. They were blessed with two daughters, Colleen (Stay) and Susan (Olson). He was united in marriage to Irma Paap on December 28, 1991 in New Ulm. They were blessed with twenty four years of marriage. Mike was a teacher of Social Studies, History and English and taught in Aitkin for three years and then twenty seven years in New Ulm. He retired in 1992. He enjoyed reading, and travelling. He faithfully read the Bible and watched the Time of Grace Programs on TV. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church, Time of Grace Ministries, or Oak Hills Living Center Foundation. www.mvfh.org
