Richard "Dick" R. Mueller, age 83, of New Ulm, passed away on May 1, 2026 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 30 2026, at 11 am, at Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Ulm. Father Mark Steffl will be celebrating the mass. Burial, with full military honors accorded by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard, will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Friday, May 29, 2026 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH Chapel in New Ulm, and will continue on Saturday from 9:30-10:30 am at the funeral home.

Dick is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Monica; daughter, Christine (John Zuhlsdorf) Mueller of New Ulm; sons, Rick (Teresa) of Rogers, MN and Dean (Heather) of Mankato; seven grandchildren, Ariana Rost, Ethan Rost, Nicholaus Mueller, Nathan Mueller, Noah Mueller, Ian Mueller, and Kendra Mueller; and a brother, Steve of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ida; and his sister, Barbara Mueller.
Richard Raymond Mueller was born on April 29, 1943 in New Ulm to Raymond & Ida (Franta) Mueller. He attended Lafayette grade school for 4 years, then Holy Trinity/Cathedral schools, graduating from Cathedral High School in 1961. He then attended Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, majoring in building construction. Dick then returned to New Ulm and began his construction career with Quality Builders/Lampert Building Center. In 1962, Dick joined the Minnesota National Guards, with his basic training in the field artillery division. Dick was united in marriage to Monica Seidl on October 9, 1965 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye.
In 1967, he began full time employment with the New Ulm National Guard Field Artillery unit, retiring as a Major in May 1986. Dick then worked at 3M until his final retirement in 2011. Dick loved giving back to his community, where he became a member of NUACS and the Diocesan Board of Education 1978-1984. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus, and Catholic United Financial. Dick was involved with the New Ulm Hockey Association, New Ulm Baseball Association, and the New Ulm Legion baseball programs, serving as youth hockey and baseball coaches, baseball manager and/or board member. In 2012, Dick was inducted into the New Ulm Baseball Hall of Fame and in 2021, he was inducted into The Minnesota American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame. Dick was a member of the American Legion Seifert Bianchi Post 132 for over 50 years, where he served as past commander, many years as a member of the Comrades of Valor, and was a frequent patron known as a man of few words. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Cathedral High School, the New Ulm American Legion, or the New Ulm Baseball Association.
