NEW ULM

Robert Foley, 94, of New Ulm died Monday, February 28, 2011 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Father Mark Steffl celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and from 7:30 - 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Theresa Westrup of New Ulm, Mary Foley of Grass Valley, California, Rita and Peter Kitzberger of New Ulm, Monica and Roger Fleegel of Albert Lea; sons and daughters-in-law, James and Sharon Foley of Ironwood, Michigan, William and JoAnn Foley of Bemidji, Patrick and Kathleen Foley of Northfield, Joseph Foley of Bemidji, Daniel and Janice Foley of Northfield, Thomas and Michelle Foley of Courtland; 24 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Phyllis Tanghe of Marshall; brother and sister-in-law, James and Virginia Foley of Tracy; sister-in-law, Terry Foley of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith E. Foley on October 27, 2008; a son-in-law, David Westrup in 2000; two sisters; and two brothers.



Robert Daniel Foley was born on December 31, 1916 in Lyon County to Daniel and Luella (Ford) Foley. He served in the U.S. Navy from June of 1939 to October of 1945 and spent most of the time onboard ship. On January 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Edith Elizabeth Schons at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tracy. After his military service he worked at the City Power Plant in Springfield until 1955. Robert then worked at Kraft in New Ulm for 26 1/2 years and retired in 1982. Robert enjoyed flying in gliders, reading, beekeeping, walking, traveling, bird watching and feeding, volunteering at church, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Memorials are preferred to N.U.A.C.S. or Oak Hills Living Center.
