Obituary

Rosalia Gertrude Lake-Lendt, 89, of Sleepy Eye (formerly New Ulm) was called to join her heavenly father on Saturday, April 4, 2015 from the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye.

Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, April, 9 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter officiating the Mass. A private family committal service will take place at the New Ulm City Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 7:30-9 a.m. on Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church in New Ulm.

A memorial service for Rose will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 10 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis, Minnesota. To leave an online condolence for her family, or to sign the guestbook, go to www.mvfh.org

Rosalia is survived by her sister, Brenda Garcia of New Mexico; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Lake of Nanuet, New York; and loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon Lendt; sisters, Lillian Hirsch, Mary Coffey; and brother, Jerome J. Lake; and infant sister, Brunetta Lake.

Rosalia Gertrude Lake was born July 27, 1925 in New Ulm to Ernest and Theresa (Battes) Lake. She graduated from New Ulm Public High School in 1944 and then attended Mankato State University where she attained her teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Eldon Lendt on July 19, 1948 in Ely, Minnesota. The couple moved to New Ulm where Rosalia worked for rural schools in Nicollet, Redwood, and Brown Counties. She eventually took a position teaching the second grade for the New Ulm Public School District 88 where she worked until her retirement in 1987. As a devout educator, Rosalia held many positions in the school district including New Ulm Education Association Treasurer, Legislative Chairperson, Social Services Chairperson, Elementary School Representative, and the State Environmental Education Representative for the school district. She was also active in the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society where she held positions as a past president, secretary, and music chairperson. Civically, Rosalia was involved with the Crescendo Federated Women's Club of New Ulm where she held positions as President, Secretary, Community Improvement Chairperson, Fund Raising Chairperson, Director of Guided tours for New Ulm, and a member of the New Ulm Heritage Pageant. Rosalia was also active as a Redwood County 4H Leader, a member of the Business and Professional Women's Club of New Ulm, a volunteer for United Way, Secretary of Spider Lake Shores Association in Nevis, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. One of her most treasured accomplishments was being granted the School District 88 Educator of the Year and the Brown County Educator of the Year in 1980. She was an active member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.
