Sharon (Scherer) Larson, age 60, of New Ulm, MN, formerly of Sleepy Eye and then Hanska, died on Friday, April 1, 2022 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis with her children at her side.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Kathleen Ulland-Klinkner officiating. A private family burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Sleepy Eye.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel and will continue one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Sharon was born on November 2, 1961 in Sleepy Eye to Bernard and Emma (Jones) Scherer. She grew up on the family farm northwest of Sleepy Eye and graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1980. After high school, Sharon attended beauty school in Mankato. While attending beauty school, she met Kurt Larson. They married in 1981 and lived their married life in Hanska. Sharon attended nursing school at Minnesota State Mankato while raising Isaac and Aimee. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing and worked in area nursing homes and as a Brown County Public Health Nurse. For the past 10 years, Sharon was employed as the school registered nurse at New Ulm Public Schools.

Although her life seemed short, let us not forget the cards she was dealt.  At the early age of 20 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma (a cancer that affects the body's germ-fighting immune system).  Not given much chance to survive, she developed the strength, resilience and courage to conquer this evil disease.  Over the remaining 40 years of Sharon's life, the effects of her cancer treatment never went away.  However, through it all she remained positive, loving, never judged, never pushed and always enjoyed a good time.  So as hard as it may be, let us rejoice and give thanks that we had the opportunity to enjoy her motherhood, laughter and friendship during those years.

Isaac was a blessing in disguise, he saved his mom's life when he was born.  He entered into this world on April 19, 1982 and the doctors found Sharon's cancer on April 20, 1982.  After months of treatment, she would not be able to have any more children.  This was a double blessing in disguise, as Sharon and Kurt then adopted a child.  Aimee joined the family in 1987. You could hear her screaming from South Korea, across the ocean and all the way down the jet way, but as soon as she landed into Sharon's arms she quit crying.  Sharon saved a little baby from an orphanage 6,000 miles away.  No questions asked, unconditional love at its finest.

Throughout her life, Sharon enjoyed many things.  We all will cherish the great memories we have with her.  Some of the things she enjoyed most included playing cards, shaking dice, bowling excursions, mobile asylum family trips, book club, annual Larson family Thanksgiving trips to Detroit and Chicago, singing karaoke (I Got You Babe), lazy pontoon rides, warm coffee in the morning and cold beer in the evening, lake time, live music, time spent at Schmiesing's cabin and above all, hanging out with her children and her four grandbabies.

She is survived by her son, Isaac and his wife Heather, grandchildren – Charles, Chase, and Charlotte; her daughter, Aimee and her husband Blake, and granddaughter Parker; and her children's father, Kurt Larson; her siblings – Diane (Dave) Delaughter, Sandra (Mike) Kollmann, Patsy Kramin, Doreen (Steve) Tyler, Linda (Jason) Ferrari, and James (Nancy) Scherer; her in-laws – Jody Larson, Eric (Monica) Larson, and Jana (Kirk) Thams, many nieces and nephews; and an abundance of great friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Emma Scherer; in-laws, Charles and Norma Larson; niece, Miranda Kollmann; and nephew, Zachary Bassett.
