Theodore "Ted" Asmus Jr., 80, of New Ulm died Monday, October 19, 2015 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis of complications from cardiac arrest.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday, October 24, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with Pastor Timothy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery in New Ulm.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Friday and 7:30 – 8:30 AM Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at church on Saturday.
Ted is survived by his wife, Barbara Asmus of New Ulm; daughters, Julie (Paul) Fromm of New Ulm, Vicki (Tim) Drexler of Zumbrota; sons, Steven (Annette) Asmus of New Ulm, Gregg (Catherine) Asmus of Shakopee; 13 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and by his sister, Delila Maidl of New Ulm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Harold "Red" Maidl and Delbert Stoll.
Theodore Melvin Asmus Jr. was born March 31, 1935 in New Ulm to Theodore and Angeline (Sporer) Asmus. He attended New Ulm Public Schools. Ted served in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Barbara Stoll on February 11, 1961 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm. After marriage they resided in New Ulm where Ted was employed at August Schell Brewing Company, Florian Dittrich Trucking, 3M for 25 years and he also farmed until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, camping, cutting fire wood, model airplanes, putzing in the yard, helping his children with projects, motorcycling and sitting around the campfire with friends and family. Ted loved spending time with family and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm and a past member of the Flying Dutchmen Motorcycle Club.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
