Vern Richard Kask, 84, of New Ulm, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025.
Born on March 10, 1941, in Moline, Illinois, to Verner and Virginia (Palmquist) Kask, Vern grew up with a love for the outdoors. After high school, he proudly served in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1967, achieving the rank of Petty Officer First Class as an Electronics Engineer.
On December 22, 1963, Vern married the love of his life, Betty Jeffery. They built a beautiful life together, raising their children and creating lasting memories. Vern had a fulfilling career as a 3M Engineer in New Ulm. He later purchased Roeder's Hatchery and became self-employed. He enjoyed many aspects of running the Hatchery. Later on in life, Vern became a certified contractor and land developer.
In his free time, Vern found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved communing with nature, spending countless hours fishing and enjoying the tranquility of the outdoors. An avid cook, he delighted in preparing meals for his family, and he also enjoyed the challenge and relaxation of putting together jigsaw puzzles
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Verner and Virginia Kask, and his brother, Jeff Kask.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Betty; his son, Erik Kask (wife Anita) of Winthrop; and his daughter, Tammy Buegler (husband Dave) of New Ulm. He also leaves behind a legacy through his cherished grandchildren: Scott Kask (wife Dorianne) of Albany, Samatha Kask (fiancé Spencer Martin) of Austin, Texas, Adam Buegler (wife Leah) of Eagle Lake, and Kelli (husband Nate) Kral of New Ulm. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes - SOUTH Chapel in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery with full military honors provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2025 will continue from 10-11 am on Tuesday, November 25, both at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home – SOUTH chapel in New Ulm.
