Obituary

Victor E. Davis ("Gramps"), age 90, of New Ulm passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at Oak Hills Living Center.  A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-South Chapel in New Ulm.  Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery, Soldier's Rest section where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.  Visitation will be prior to the service from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  To leave an online condolence for the family, or to sign the guestbook, please visit: www.mvfh.org .

Left to share his memory are his children, Sheri Davis of New Ulm, Gary Davis of San Diego, CA, Mary (Jeff) Hohensee of New Ulm; grandchildren, Jen Verzalik, Laura (Colbey) Leighty, Ellie Hohensee, Rachel Hohensee, Ben Hohensee; great grandchildren, Collin, Carson, and Camden Verzalik, Kaden, Luke, and Avery Leighty; sister-in-law, Ferne Davis of New Ulm; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mavis Davis; parents, Harold and Angeline Davis; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Bette/Mayme) Reinarts, Leon (Anneliese) Davis, and Harold Davis, Jr.

Vic was born February 9, 1932 to Harold and Angeline Davis in New Ulm.  After graduating from Holy Trinity High School in 1950, he began his 37-year career with New Ulm Public Utilities Commission Gas Department.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in May of 1954, served his country until May of 1956, then returned home and continued his employment with the PUC.  On September 14, 1957, Victor was united in marriage to Mavis Marks and together they had three children.  He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 where he once was a member of the drill team.

Vic loved watching The Wheel of Fortune while often waiting for Mavis to return from her infamous shopping trips.  The two spent winters in San Diego and spent their time at home cheering on their grandchildren and great-grandchildren in various sporting games, programs, and recitals.  He loved relaxing on the front patio, visiting with neighbors and friends, naps in the sunshine, humming tunes, and potato pancakes from the local Perkins.  His kind demeanor and love for his family was evident to everyone who knew him.  While we will miss him dearly, our hearts are filled with joy knowing he is cracking open a Pepsi and laughing with his "foxy bride," Mavis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Oak Hills Living Center, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 15 of New Ulm, American Legion Seifert-Bianchi Post 132, or the donor's choice.
