Viola Schaefer, age 91 of New Ulm died Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Prairie Senior Cottages in New Ulm.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11am on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. A private burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 10-11am on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, prior to the service.
The Christian Mothers will pray the rosary at 4pm on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Cathedral of the Holy Trinity.

Viola "Mutsi" is survived by her daughter, Diane Becken of New Ulm; granddaughters, Katherine Becken (Cory Anderson) of Houston, Texas, Jessica Schaefer and Crystal Markfort, both of St. Cloud; nine great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joleen "Beke" (Ronald) Altman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey Schaefer; son, David Schaefer; son-in-law, Bryan Becken; granddaughter, Jennifer Braam; sisters, Patsy Sprenger and Jeanette "Tootie" Christensen.
Viola Brueske was born September 26, 1932 in New Ulm to Raymond and Veronica (Zangl) Brueske. She attended school at Holy Trinity. On October 22, 1947, she married Harvey Schaefer at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. The two were blessed with a daughter and a son. Over her career, Viola worked at Cudahy Packing Factory, Wear-Well Garment Company, and lastly, Windings for 22 years. In her free time, Viola enjoyed listening to old time music, dancing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. She was a lifelong member of Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church, where she belonged to St. Elizabeth Society and the Christian Mothers. Blessed be her memory.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the donor's choice.
