Virgil Duane Bode, age 92 of rural Nicollet died peacefully at his farm with his family by his side on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

Funeral service will be 11 am on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Nicollet.  Pastor Micah Plocher will officiate, and burial will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Nicollet where full military honors will be provided by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard.

Visitation will take place from 4-6 pm on Friday, February 3 ^rd , and continue from 10-11 am on Saturday all at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet.

The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements at this time.

Virgil is survived by his daughters, Cheryl (Glenn) Bloomer of Woodbury, Connie (Joel) Zimmerman of Nicollet, Susan (Rick) Padfield of Shakopee, Cindy (Bill) Rose of North Mankato, Kathy (Brian) Olsem of Waconia; his son, David (Kelly) Bode of Nicollet; his 17 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren; his sisters, LaDonna Shult of Winthrop, Dianne (Robert) Wolff of Lake City; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn Bode in 2016; his grandson, Justin Bloomer in 2019; and his brother-in-law, Troy Shult.

Virgil Duane Bode was born September 21, 1930, in Mankato to LaRoy and Alma (Dallmann) Bode.  He was baptized into the faith on October 5, 1930, by Pastor Koehler and later confirmed on April 2, 1944, by Pastor Schaller; his confirmation verse being Isiah 43 v:1.  Virgil grew up on his family's farm in rural Nicollet, and was a 1948 graduate from Nicollet High School.  Virgil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954-1958 serving in Fort Knox, Kentucky as a cook.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn "Evy" Schroeder on April 27, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nicollet.  This union blessed the couple with five daughters and a son whom together they raised on their farm in rural Nicollet.  Virgil worked his entire career as a dedicated farmer until his retirement in 1994.  Besides his work on the farm, Virgil's faith was an important part of his life.  He was a dedicated lifelong member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on their church and school boards for many years.  To give back to his rural community, Virgil also served on the Nicollet Co-op Oil Association Board as well as the FSA Board.  As an avid outdoorsman, Virgil also enjoyed taking in nature fishing and hunting.  What brought him the most joy in life was always his family.  He loved getting to spend every moment he could with them, and especially enjoyed following all of his grandchildren's events growing up.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  Blessed be his memory.
