Alan "Al" Richter, 54, of New Ulm, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm with Monsignor John A. Richter celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday and from 7:30-10 a.m. Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm. The Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6:30 p.m. and there will be a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m., both at the funeral home on Friday.
Al is survived by his wife, Linda Richter of New Ulm; mother, Florinda Richter of New Ulm; daughters and son-in-law, Jennie and Brian Lundgren of Norwood Young America, Samantha Richter and fiancé, Jim Bigler of Burnsville; son, Scott Richter of New Ulm; grandchildren, Lanie Lundgren, Bodie Lundgren, Ethan Richter, Brogan Richter; brothers and sister-in-law, Lynn and Mary Richter and their daughters, Angie Richter and Lisa Brengman, Kenny Richter of New Ulm; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Rose and Lenny Nachreiner of New Ulm, Mary and Pat Portner of New Ulm, Lucy and Doug Sonday of Springfield, Rita Meine of Springfield, Donna and Dennis Myers of Spicer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Karen Walter of St. James, Alphonse Walter of St. James, Norb and Pat Walter of Arlington, Texas, Tim and Angie Walter of Roseville; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Richter Jr.; and son, Nathan Richter.
Alan Keith Richter was born August 22, 1957 in New Ulm to William and Flo (Fortwengler) Richter. He attended Cathedral Grade School and High School and graduated with the class of 1975. On July 11, 1981, Al was united in marriage to Linda Walter at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Al began his career at the age of 16, starting as a bag boy at Madsen's and worked his way up to manager of sporting goods at Randall's. He continued working at Cashwise, where he was currently employed. Al was a serious fisherman and enjoyed hunting pheasants and spending time outdoors. He was very patient as he taught his grandchildren the sport he loved most: fishing. Al was a loving husband, devoted family man, and true gentleman. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and Pheasants Forever.
