John Edward Wear's Obituary
John E. Wear, 92 of rural Nicollet died Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Friday, June 22, 2012 at St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Lafayette with Father John Berger celebrating the Mass. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in rural Nicollet with full military honors being conducted by the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 PM Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of Mass at church on Friday. There will be a parish prayer service at 7 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Dan Rietsma of Madison Lake, Mary and Bill Baker of Houston, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Mary Wear of Coleville, Washington, Patrick and Sue Wear of Nicollet, Thomas and Renee Wear of Nicollet, John Wear of Gaylord, James and Ziva Wear of Madison, Wisconsin; 18 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Bud Ferrell of Wayzata; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louise on July 31, 2000; sister, Kathryn Radcliffe; and by his brothers, William and Philip Wear.
John Edward Wear was born April 21, 1920 in Minneapolis to John and Ruth (Kelley) Wear. John was a graduate of St. Thomas Academy and the University of St. Thomas. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army during WWII. John was united in marriage to Louise Sellner on August 9, 1952 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. After marriage they were dairy farmers in New Sweden Township, Nicollet County until his retirement in 2006. John was an avid reader, even after he lost his sight he would listen to book tapes. He was quick with his comments and jokes. John was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. We will miss him dearly.
He was a member of the St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church in Lafayette, American Jersey Cattle Association and a lifetime member of the Farm Bureau.
