NICOLLET


Rinehard "Rhiny" Tretter, 92, of New Ulm and formerly of Nicollet died Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet with Fr. Edward J. Ardolf celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the Soldier's Rest Section of the New Ulm City Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Post #510 Honor Guard. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet. There will be a parish prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church. Minnesota Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.


Rhiny is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and James Berbee of Minnetonka, Sandra and Carl Zeidler of New Ulm; son and daughter-in-law, James and Connie Tretter of Brainerd; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ann Hillmer of St. Paul, Catherine Dimmick of Freeport, Illinois; and nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorna Tretter on August 4, 1984; two sisters; and seven brothers.


Rinehard C. Tretter was born on July 5, 1920 in Lastrup to Christ and Clara (Vosen) Tretter. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from December 5, 1944 to October 24, 1946. On September 27, 1944 he was united in marriage to Lorna Ann Westphal at the Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Peter. After marriage they farmed in rural Nicollet until 1949 when they moved into Nicollet. Rhiny worked for thirty years as a custodian at the Nicollet Public School. After retiring he worked some construction and also worked at Hewitt Roll - A - Dock in Nicollet. Rhiny was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Nicollet and a member of the Nicollet American Legion Post #510. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Catholic Church or Ridgeway on German.
