Cheryl "Sunshine" Schugel, 54, of New Ulm died Friday, November 7, 2014 at the Abbott – Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Ulm with Father Samuel Wagner celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 – 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:30 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, NORTH CHAPEL, in New Ulm.
Cheryl is survived by her daughter, Hope Capp of Minneapolis; fiancé, Jerry Doose of Princeton; special friend, Landis Forster of New Ulm; sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Leo Wallner of New Ulm; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Rosie Schugel, Richard and Judy Schugel, Mike and Rita Schugel, Pat and Julie Schugel all of New Ulm; nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Sheena Capp; and two brothers in infancy.
Cheryl Ann Schugel was born on December 24, 1959 in New Ulm to Harold and Antoinette (Spaeth) Schugel. Cheryl graduated in 1979 from the Minnesota School for the Deaf now known as the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf in Faribault. She attended St. Paul College for a year and then moved to Mankato before moving back to New Ulm. Cheryl worked at Holiday Inn, Hy-Vee, currently at MRCI in New Ulm in data entry and had been employed there for over twenty years. She was a sweet woman who loved children, especially her own, and was always smiling and had many many friends. Cheryl enriched the lives of everyone she met and family and friends meant the world to her. She enjoyed visiting with friends on video phone or computers. In lieu of flowers her family has set up a fund for her daughter, Hope Capp. Donations can be sent to Citizen's Bank of Minnesota in New Ulm. www.mvfh,org
