"C.F." Clarence Frank Maidl, age 86, of Lafayette, died Friday July 8, 2016 at the New Ulm Medical Center in New Ulm surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 am on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Lafayette. Monsignor John A. Richter will celebrate the Mass, Father Tony Hesse will concelebrate, and burial will follow in the St. Gregory the Great Catholic Cemetery in Lafayette. Visitation will be 3-8 pm on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home-NORTH CHAPEL in New Ulm. The visitation will continue from 9-11 am on Wednesday at the church in Lafayette. The Catholic Order of Foresters will pray the rosary at 6 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home in New Ulm.

Clarence was born on October 6, 1929, the son of Joseph and Bertha (Schaeffler) Maidl in Lafayette, MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended District 56 Country School in Sibley County for six years, then later attended Holy Trinity School. On May 23, 1950, he married Betty Mae Adam at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in New Ulm. Clarence was an extremely hard working man and held many different occupations over his lifetime, which included the following: Working at the Feed Mill in Lafayette, Owning and operating Maidl's Tavern and then Maidl's Produce with his wife Betty, selling Moorman's Feed and then in 1966 he became the bulk fuel driver for Klossner Co-op Oil Co., where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 1992. Upon retirement, Clarence helped out at the Ag Center in Lafayette and on the farms of his brothers and son, Joe. Faith & church were a big part of Clarence's life, as he was a charter member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Lafayette. He was an active member of the parish. Clarence served as a Eucharistic minister, lector as well as assuming the role of groundskeeper/caretaker of the Church grounds and cemetery for many years. Mowing the lawn at the church grounds and cemetery was a great joy of his. Clarence was a very active member of the local Community and would always volunteer to help at any given time. His positive attitude, kind heart and ability to make anybody smile never went unnoticed as he was named Minnesota C.O.F Fraternalist of the year, a WCCO Radio Good Neighbor Award recipient, Nicollet County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award recipient, and the Bishops Medal for Service recipient June 16, 2013. He was a charter member of the Lafayette Area Lions Club, where he was the recipient of the Helen Keller Sight Award and the Melvin Jones Award. Clarence served on the Lafayette Volunteer Fire Department for over 43 years, 13 of those as the Fire Chief. He took great pride in his time on the Fire Department and enjoyed serving the Lafayette area for so many years. Clarence was also a member of Catholic Order of Foresters St. Thomas Court #1994 for over 70 years where he held many offices on the local and state level. Other local organizations and activities that Clarence was involved in, include the following: Fun Fair committee member, charter member of the Lafayette United Fund, Lafayette Community Club member, Lafayette Industries member, Lafayette Baseball Board member, Lafayette City Clerk and Councilman, Advisory Board of the Lafayette Good Samaritan Center, 4-H, and Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Award of Merit from the Twin Valley Council Boy Scouts. Hobbies and interests of C.F's included playing sheephead, dancing, listening to KNUJ, baking cookies, mowing lawn, gardening, donating blood (he donated nearly 13 gallons in his lifetime), decorating his front yard for each holiday, and most importantly - spending time with his family and friends.
Clarence is survived by his wife, Betty (Adam) Maidl of Lafayette; Children, Dianne (Dennis) Kuester of Lafayette, Robert (Linda) Maidl of Eagle River, AK, John (Rebecca) Maidl of Roseville, Joe (Deb) Maidl of Lafayette, and Aimee (Randy) Altmann of Lafayette; Grandchildren, Ellen (Travis) Anderson of Winthrop, Heather (Marty Odsather) Maidl of Eagle River, AK, Heidi (Clint) Brittain of Chugiak AK, Robbie (Tina Stambaugh) Maidl of Wasilla, AK, Ryan (Nikki) Maidl of Chugiak, AK, Ross Maidl of Honolulu, HI, Jessica Maidl of Lafayette, Andrew (Jazmyne Miller) Maidl of Lafayette, Kurk (Anna Faust) Altmann of Minneapolis, Kayla (Allan Campbell) Altmann of St. Peter, and Troy Altmann of Maddock, ND; 10 great grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Delila Maidl of New Ulm as well as many nieces and nephews.
Clarence is preceded in death by his parents; Sisters, Florence (Albert) Swenson, Deloris (Henry) Preisinger, Hildegarde Maidl; Brothers, Victor Maidl, Harold Maidl, Herbert (Edna) Maidl and Leo Maidl.
Clarence has been battling health issues for the past few years and the family is at peace knowing that he is no longer in pain. C.F. was a loving husband, brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He has touched so many lives during his time on earth and he will truly be missed.
