Obituary

Martha Marie Elizabeth Schultz, age 99 of Hutchinson died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.

Funeral service will be 11 am on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. Reverend R. Allen Reed will officiate, and burial will follow in the Brownton City Cemetery in Brownton.

Visitation will be from 9:30-11 am on Thursday at the church in Brownton.

Martha is survived by her daughters, El Donna Harbarth of Hutchinson, Carolyn (Cliff) Ruschmeyer of Woodbury; grandchildren, Lori (Ron) Pagel of Dassel, Wendy (Peter) Ruschmeier of Glencoe, Craig Ruschmeyer of Cottage Grove, Cory (Stacy) Ruschmeyer of Hutchinson, Chanda (James) Greenberger of Woodbury; 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Duenow of Arlington, Lillie Lindeman of Brownton; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph Schultz; son-in-law, Willmar Harbarth; grandson, Jesse Harbarth; sister, Adeline Becker; brothers, Ernest and Gerhard Pischke; and step-brother, Edward Pieschke.

Martha Marie Elizabeth Pischke was born June 13, 1917 in Sibley County near New Auburn to Carl and Marie (Grack) Pischke. Martha was baptized on July 15, 1917 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township by Adolph Hoyer. She attended country school, and was later confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church by Hans Werner on March 29, 1931. On March 2, 1937 Martha was united in marriage to Adolph Schultz in the church parsonage in New Auburn. The couple was blessed with two daughters whom together they raised on their farm outside of Brownton. Martha worked side by side with her husband Adolph on their dairy farm where she also raised ducks and chickens. Martha had a variety of other activities that she enjoyed in life including gardening, fishing, crocheting, and quilting. She spent many hours sewing baby quilts and also helped with the centennial quilt at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Martha was a devout member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton where she volunteered with the Ladies Aid, a member of the Pioneer Citizens of New Auburn, and the Brownton Senior Citizens.
