Herbert "Herb" Joseph Franta Jr., 84, of Rochester, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm where the New Ulm Area Comrades of Valor Honor Guard will provide full military honors.

Visitation will be from 11-12 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New Ulm.

Herb was born to Herbert Sr. and Katherine (Koenker) Franta on February 28, 1937 in New Ulm, MN. He attended Holy Trinity / Cathedral  High School , graduating in 1956.  Herb was a US Army Military Veteran as a Mechanic . Herb's  love of cars was not only a hobby, but led to him to being a successful automobile business owner, last being Midas Muffler in Rochester, MN. Herb enjoyed time with his family, road trips, time at the cabin, car shows, car races  and breakfast with friends. Thank you to Todd and Rosie Sanden for all their support the past few years.

Herb is survived by his three children, Molly Fleming, Mike (Polly) Franta, Jennifer (William) Collumbien; grandchildren, Andrew, Nicolette, Charlie, and Oliver; and his brothers Steven Franta and David Franta, several nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert, Sr. and Katherine Franta and Frank Franta, brother.
